A letter to our hurting parts
When it’s lonely
When it feels like everyone has it but you
When you can’t see a way through
When you want to retreat into the shadows
Disappear into the night
And blow out your own light
When it hurts
When you’re confused and scared
When the vulnerability you’re craving just feels too bare
When it would be easier to perform
To put on a show and feel less
To place your value in your hair and how you dress
When a smile and a laugh is what you think they really want
Yet there are parts inside of you that feel too dark
And the difference is too stark
Can you turn toward yourself
Be in your power, feel your brave
The world will cut you down
But it’s your heart you can save
Keep even just a part of you in the light
Don’t sneak into the night
Honoring the dark inside of you will help you stay bright
Because your light will be a beacon
Calling in people in the same season
And finally you’ll have a reason
To be you
To trust you
To honor you
So when it’s lonely
When it feels like everyone has it but you
When you can’t see a way through
— I do
